Traditional music in modern society

 Introduction

Maybe you are wondering how important is traditional music in today’s society or how it evolves over time. You are still one of those who think that traditional music is only for older people and that this genre has no impact on today’s society. Well, we have prepared some arguments to change your mind.

Developing

Traditional music varies, it does not remain motionless, it is more, as the years pass more changes. Despite this, it always maintains characteristic features that are difficult to vary. On the one hand we find the rhythm, which is a feature that allows us, among other things, to identify the style and even the song that is playing. On the other side of the currency, we find the lyrics of the songs that can vary and adapt to the society of the moment.

For example, in Catalonia as traditional music or dance we find sardanas. At the end of the 19th century, Pep Ventura realized that the melody of this dance was very limited. Therefore, it decided to make it evolve a little. This fact caused the creation of the Sardana Largo. Thus, we can currently differentiate between the most traditional sardana, which has not received any change, and the long sardana that is simply an evolution of the previous. Highlight that in 2010, the Generalitat de Catalunya included this traditional Catalan dance in the Catalog of the festive heritage of Catalonia, declaring it as a festive element of national interest.

Wait! Traditional Music In Modern Society paper is just an example!

Another example of evolution within traditional music would be Rosalia. This internationally known artist uses rhythms that are used in traditional flamenco and updates the letter making it more in line with current society. Has turned each song into a success. This does not mean that traditional flamenco has been replaced, but another version has emerged.

The lyrics in traditional music are very important, since most of the time they used it as a way to claim rights. But it is also one of the aspects that artists vary more in order to adapt the songs to the time in which it is.

As for traditional Spanish music we would find the jotas in Aragon, the sardanas in Catalonia, as we have already mentioned, and the Zambombas de Huelva, among many others. All these songs have in common that they are accompanied by a traditional dance that has remained the same over time and has even continued to respect the typical clothing.

conclusion

We must admit that traditional music does not have the same importance that it had in past societies and that it is possible that some songs end up disappearing. But it cannot be denied that it has influence on current modern society. It is impossible to imagine the feasts of the Pilar without Jotas, the April Fair without Flamenco or the Festa de la Mercè without Sardanas. Without this type of music, all these parties would lose much of the essence that makes them unique and unrepeatable. If these traditions have something, they manage to unite people of different generations for a moment.
