Company background
Apple is an American multinational technology company withiest headquarters in California Cupertino. The firm was founded in 1976 and engages in designing, developing and selling computer software, consumer electronics, and also offers online services. The firm’s stocks are publicly traded in the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol ‘AAPL’. The firm serves the global market with a wide range of products including iPhone, iPad, tvOS, Apple Watch, iOS, iPod, HomePod, among others while the services include Apple Music Apple Bay, App Store, Apple Store, iTunes store etc. Apple is among the best performers in the conservation of the environment and in ensuring that they have the least impact on the environment. In fact, they strive to make it better than the found it.
Impact of Current Activities
Apple’s drive to power all its data centers, retail stores and corporate offices using clean energy is a great initiative for the conservation of the environment. The organization has achieved 100% consumption of renewable energy in all its operations in 2017. It uses solar energy, biogas fuel cells, wind, and water energy which do not affect the environment in any way. This is a great initiative considering that the future generations are not affected. Additionally, through the clean energy, the firm has managed to reduce the carbon emissions to the environment by up to 54% from 2011 (Apple, 2017).

The carbon emissions are responsible for the depletion of the ozone layer which plays a major part in protecting harmful lays into the environment. It is also responsible for global warming which further leads to the increased water levels in the oceans and seas thereby occasioning the tsunamis and the reduced habitation lands. Reducing carbon emissions is thus a noble course for the enrichment of future generations.
Areas of Improvement
In as much as Apple has done great in the sustainability of the environment, some areas still need improvement including the organization’s supply chain. Although the firm uses renewable energy, it still relies on fuel to transport its goods which washes down its efforts. Secondly, even with the recyclable energy, the firm’s products should be based on recyclability and durability. Although the firm has offered to buy back some products, they should be recyclable by the users.
