Data communication standards play a very important to the healthcare. For instance, when a patient is admitted to the healthcare, the medical details need to be used in different departments where the patients will undergo medication (Advandi, 2014). And also the doctors who will be carrying out the treatment of the patients need to know what the patient is suffering from as the patient move from one nurse or doctor to another. On the same note, the personal doctor to the patient normally needs to know the status of his/her patient and what the patient is suffering from, and therefore such doctors also require communication and access to information about the patient’s health (Edelstein, 2017). Finally, in case the patient keeps his/her health records, then s/he need to get access to the treatment details that have been done to her/him. The data communication standards, therefore, allow these individuals to get access to the information about the patient (Edelstein, 2017). This is also the way in which data set standards is used in the healthcare to promote communication whenever they are dealing with the health record of a patient during and after medication (Burney, Mahmood & Abbas, 2010). The communication can be conducted through different devices and facilities hence making effective to share data with different people regardless of the devices they use. All the areas of application of data standard are important equally (O’Daniel & Rosenstein, 2014).

The other importance of the communication standards is the accuracy of the pieces of information that are received (“Data Standards, Data Quality, and Interoperability”, 2013).
In case there were no data standards, it would be difficult to maintain the accuracy of the information being shared (Aspden & Corrigan, 2014). And also “it would be difficult to communicate to different people using different facilities” thereby making it tedious to compile the health information of the patients. There would be a delay in treatment in different departments since the documents could be transferred manually (Advandi, 2014).
