Shoulder Injury in CrossFit
Sports injuries are injuries that occur during an athletic activity, which usually prevent the affected individual from undertaking any athletic activity. Particularly in CrossFit, shoulder injuries are very prevalent and may recur. This is because over 80% of CrossFit workouts entail the movement of the shoulders. If one needs to perform optimally in CrossFit, they need to ensure that they avoid shoulder injuries that cause pain like shoulder impingement.
Using the SOAP note method of the shoulder injury analysis, the process would entail:
Subjective Component
In this section, I would obtain the chief complaint of the patient. This would entail processes like taking the history of the illness and recording them. I would gather all relevant medical, family, surgical, and social histories of the patient. I would obtain information such as the location of the injury, its onset, quality, chronology, severity, treatment plans, modifying factors, and any other additional symptoms.
Objective Component
In this process, I would obtain the current presentation of the patient’s parameters. I would get their weight and physical examination such as swelling in the injured area. I would also analyze images of X-rays or MRIs and analyze the blood samples from the lab. This will help me check from symptoms like fracture or shoulder arthritis (“Lab Tests for Shoulder Problems” N.d).
Assessment
This stage entails the medical diagnosis of the shoulder injury according to the symptoms and lab samples results and using differential diagnosis.

This process will also involve the progress of the patient and the general condition and extent of the injury.
Plan
This is the last stage of the process and highly depends on the outcomes of the assessment of the shoulder injury. If the conclusions from the evaluation are weak and not definite, I would order further tests like testing of fluids from the joints, and if it pertains pain the left shoulder, I will consider cardiac tests. Otherwise, I would recommend medications or therapies according to the diagnosis and prognosis.
