Strategies to Promote Comfort in an Ethnically Diverse Aging Population
Aging populations are more ethnically and racially diverse and in most instances, suffer from multiple chronic conditions. As such, providing care for these individuals presents as a tough challenge for critical care nurses. Herein, two strategies are proposed in a bid to overcome the challenges associated with caring for aging and ethnically diverse populations suffering from chronic diseases.
Perhaps the first approach to achieving comfort in the population under discussion is to tackle the issue of ethnic disparities in healthcare. It is imperative to address this issue to ensure equitable access to quality healthcare for aged populations. Diversifying the workforce is instrumental in tackling ethnic disparities for geriatric populations who need continuous monitoring and are in constant contact with care providersCITATION Nat14 l 2057 (National Indian Council on Aging, 2014). Moreover, these aging individuals may feel more comfortable when attended to by someone of similar race or ethnicity. In any instance, a contented patient will be more open about their condition and how they feel, ultimately improving their outcome. Another strategy to improve comfort is to promote novel physical activity programs for the population under discussion. The National Indian Council on Aging (NICOA) (2014) notes that physical activities are essential for geriatric populations.

Nevertheless, NICOA believes that such programs should be designed in a manner that will be comfortable for aging populations. For instance, tailoring a walking program to the needs of the geriatric population in a certain community.
In conclusion, caring for senior citizens presents numerous challenges, especially with the increased ethnic and racial diversity. Nevertheless, it is imperative that healthcare providers establish strategies that bridge these gaps and ensure comfort in geriatric populations. The paper has provided a brief proposal of two approaches that can be employed to guarantee comfort.
