Abstract
Scholars can no longer deny the effects of globalization. As the world strives to conform into a single village, communication initiatives continue to become an important element in overseeing the process. The English language, which is spoken by many people across the globe, is an appropriate tool. English is the uniting factor between western and eastern countries. As such, China, an emerging, and thriving economy in the world, opted to introduce a program that acquaints the Chinese with the English language. During the inception of the program, not many people were interested, but as the country opens up economically and culturally, more people are embracing English. Reasons for increased demand of English services can be attributed to the growing rate of students moving to study abroad. Compared to Japan and Korea, the demand for Native English tutors has tripled in Beijing. The cultural and economic stature of China are also other reasons for the increased need for English teaching services. The occurrence of Olympic Games in China forced many people to learn English. In addition to this, the opening up of China economically justifies increased English learning.

As such, China, an emerging, and thriving economy in the world, opted to introduce a program that acquaints the Chinese with the English language. During the inception of the program, not many people were interested, but as the country opens up economically and culturally, more people are embracing English.
In separate analyses performed by Lin (2002) and Gamlam (2016), the last decade has seen China making advanced steps in learning English. As acknowledged by Lin (2002), the starting point was when China secured a spot to host the 2008 Olympics. Besides English being taught in schools alone, other parallel programs were introduced to match with demand for English teaching services. The fact that the Olympics games culturally opened up China created a necessity for learning English. The Olympics was one of the major events, but the current state of major sports in China is dependent on some western elements for prosperity. For instance, for China to advance its football (soccer) program, some major league clubs have been forced to contract international players who have already shined in Europe. For such transactions to occur, English as a tool of communication is needed. It is based on such premises that English training services are still on higher demand in China, a country that is working hard enough to connect with the rest of the English-speaking world.
In the analysis performed by Gamlam (2016), several factors can be linked to the continued increase for English teaching services in China. Statistics shows that many Chinese students are studying in Universities where English is the order of the day. To improve their chances of faster adaptation to the western culture, Chinese students have no alternative but rather embrace the English language. According to Chengying (2015), Chinese students in America show more willingness to speak after they have gone through an English learning program. With many students moving abroad to learn, Gamlam (2016) indicates that Chinese parents in China are spending much money to hire native English tutors to help their children. With the number of Chinese students moving to the US, UK, Canada and Australia increasing by each passing year, the need for English training services increases proportionally. As such, the early initiatives that were started off are finally paying off.
Gamlam (2016) also attributes the increased English activity to the slowing down economy of China. Most Chinese are circumstantially forced to learn English and move abroad to look for reasonable opportunities. Chinese companies are moving into foreign countries for business opportunities thus perpetuating what economic scholars term as Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). Most of the countries that Chinese companies move into are English-speaking. The only way survivability can be achieved is through English Knowledge. By putting all these factors together, it is important to acknowledge that Chinese initiatives to bond with the West would be fruitless without English learning services. This mode of service delivery practiced both formally and informally is still a necessity for China and the rest of the world when it comes to building a global village where all can thrive.
