When the nineteen amendment was ratified; it enabled women to have the rights to vote and have organize protest. Alice Paul felt that this right was not sufficient to eliminate gender discrimination in the United States. In the year 1923, she drafted an amendment of equal rights, which envisioned that women and men should enjoy same rights in the United States. This took so long until the year 1972, when Senate passed the equal rights amendment which banned any kind of discrimination in terms of gender. When the equal rights amendment was sent to the states for approval it fell short of the two-third majority which was required (Boles, Janet, 80). The failure to ratify equal rights amendment and the Title IX amendment coming into law showed that women now had an opportunity to enjoy equal roles in the society as males. Title IX amendment stated that “No person in the United States shall, by sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” This indicated that females and males had to play equivalent roles and showed that females had been endowed to the point that they comprehend their role in the social order.
People with disabilities had constantly been denied rights to enjoy basic right which other Americans enjoyed. From the speech, it depicted an acknowledgment of the discrimination of the disabled persons.

It took many years to recognize the rights of disabled people because of a history of pervasive and intended discrimination (Thornburgh, Dick, 375). People with disabilities had been denied spaces in private and public life domains hence they were not able to participate in meaningful integrated work, this led to the disabilities act taking many years to be passed.
