After the September 11 attack, the United States Congress enacted the Homeland Security Act in 2002 that formed the Department of Homeland Security. The primary mission of the department is to counter terrorism, increase border security, enforce immigration laws, ensure cyber security and help in recovery from terrorist attack damages (Chen, Wang & Zeng, 2004).The Department of Homeland Security brings together 22 government agencies concerned with security. The Department of Homeland Security v. McLean Supreme Court case is a proof of the relationship that exists between Homeland Security and criminal procedures. Mclean, a Federal Air Marshal, was accused by the Transport Security Administration (an agency of Homeland Security Department) of publicly disclosing that TSA decided to cut costs by removing air marshals from certain long distance flights. The United States’ Court of Appeal for Federal Circuit held that the law did not explicitly prohibit McLean’s public disclosure on a sensitive security matter under the Whistleblower Protection Act. This scenario indicates the authority that the Homeland Security Department has in enforcing criminal justice on issues of security. The current society is affected with many insecurity incidences with terrorism being the most worrying security issue. The purpose of homeland security has a safe United States by enacting laws and drafting new policies for fighting crime and preventing terrorism damages (Chen, Wang & Zeng, 2004)
The objective of this report is to examine the relationship between the Homeland Security and criminal procedures involved in handling security matters.

In examining this relationship; the report shall address the following objectives:
Explain the relationship between Homeland Security and criminal laws or procedures
Explaining the Significance of the Homeland Security to the current society
Assess effects of the present state of the law on the police
Assess effects of the present state of the law on citizens
Assess effects of the present state of the law on justice
The report on homeland security shall finally determine whether the law or the perception of the society has changed over time with regards to the subject matter. Research for this particular topic shall constitute relevant material from both the legal and the academic fields. Information from sources such as CRJ 120 Criminal Law & Procedure 2016 shall be applied to back up the findings from the report. Information from significant case laws pertaining the Homeland Security such as The Department of Homeland Security v. McLean shall also be used to back up the arguments on the relationship between Homeland Security and the criminal procedures. Information from Chen, Wang & Zeng (2004) and the United States Constitutional Amendments IV, V, and VI shall be applied for providing outstanding conclusions and recommendations on the topic.
