Empowering Educators to Enhance Student Learning in the Digital Era
A Summary of the Professional Development Activity
The summit was all about what teachers need in Professional Development and Professional Learning to focus on teaching, supporting teaching and helping to improve teaching and learning for Educators through Digital technology. This can be done by giving teachers enough time to collaborate and plan to acquire adequate knowledge that they can transfer it to the students in an appropriate way. Teachers can also meet the instructional coach to deliver them information before they can transport them to the classroom. Digital service is the fastest sector where you can get information. For instance, enterprises like ‘share my lesson’ is an entity where teachers and adults become free to share with one another.
Three things I learned today are…
First and foremost, engaging in planning time for teachers is very important since it equips them with more skills and knowledge every time they meet and also be updated as well as learn much on current issues which they can transfer it to the students and make learning effective and a successful one. Secondly, we need twenty-first-century educators before we meet twenty-first-century students. This means that educators should be in the forefront to acquire 21-century digital skills and knowledge for them to equip the students with the same skills and knowledge they have acquired.

Teachers need to be given time to collaborate in the classroom to build the practice on how to use the digital tools because if they do not have the time to practice there is no way it is going to happen. Last but not least, technology can be a friend or a tool that is very important in supporting educators concerning teaching and learning. It can help us in almost everything. For instance, to enhance reading, students can create twitter accounts.
Two things I never really thought of before…
Some teachers tend to think that when they see someone use a technological material in class, they can also try to apply the same in their classes. The reason behind this is that they are aware of how to teach or what they need to accomplish with the kids, forgetting that they need to see it or to be shown how to do it for them to apply it in classes correctly. The best thing to do is for an educator to know what he or she can do the best to be directed on how to do it concerning their choice of interest (Hunziker 178). To engage teachers on how to use modern technology, they should be introduced to those digital tools for them to understand better since there is no way an instructional coach can make them understand without them knowing what they are being taught about. The same applies to an educator when dealing with students.
One thing I will immediately do to promote my future as an educator is…
As an educator, I need to engage myself in knowing how to use and access digital resources. For example how to use a Twitter chat, Google services and many more. This is because teacher’s needs to be introduced to know and how to use digital resources. This can be helpful if the teacher as an individual is willing to feed himself since mentors cannot manage it alone. The reason behind this is that every person has his different interest that needs to be taken care of personally. Mentors just direct us what should be done, how it should be done and the way to go through it for the teachers to follow the directed path. Therefore, it is my responsibility as an educator to ensure that I develop much interest in learning and expanding my knowledge base. This will enable me to acquire adequate digital information which I can transfer to students hence benefit them significantly.
