Personality and Social Media
The purposed link between personality and the use of social media is a topic that has stimulated a lot of interest and debates amongst scholars. A variety of researches have determined some connection between the personality of individuals and the nature or extent of their social media usage. One excellent study is a psychometric research done by David Hughes, Moss Rowe and Andrew Lee that seeks to investigate the link between personality and two social media platforms that are becoming very common among people worldwide. The two social media platforms studied by the authors are Facebook and Twitter. In my observation, this research has successfully shown how different personalities are depicted in how people use the two social media platforms.
In summary of the article, the authors investigate a population of 300 people who are active social network users. The personalities that are being investigated include extraversion, neuroticism, agreeableness, need for cognition, conscientiousness, and sociability (David et al. 4). The research details what each personality is and furthers the possible link that can exist between them and the two social media networks (David et al. 8). After employing the suitable method of data collection and examining the data, the result of the data showed that personality is mainly related to social media through exchange or seeking of information and online socialization.
I, however, observed that the extent to which these personalities were linked to Facebook and Twitter were different and depended on other factors too.

Wait! social media and personality paper is just an example!

For example, I noticed that two people with an introvert type of personality showed different patterns of social network usage (David et al. 8). The differences that are reflected with respect to the same personality in my view as explained in the research can be as a result of the motive for using the social network platform. For example, a shy and quiet personality (introvert) may join Facebook with the aim of undoing the character which will make one post a lot of messages and interact a lot. At the same time, another introvert with a high maturity level will post very few notes (David et al. 7). The authors were very detailed and categorical in their research and employing statistical analysis which can easily convince any reader that personality is indeed linked to the use of social media networks such as Facebook
