Television and reading are blown out of its context because Winn (43) only compares television and reading to alcohol and drugs addictions. Though the book provides evidence-based debate that television is an enjoyable aspect of the life, the author does not use its case studies to support the extent to which television gets into viewers’ inactive mental state. Secondly, there is paucity of data and evidence to show that watching television makes brains ignore the concerns and worries of the actual world.
The book succeeds in detailing the extent to which the “small screen” can affect viewers’ lives. It supports the argument by pointing out different levels of negative attributes human brains develop through the small screen. There is, however, lack of correlation between heavy viewers and one time viewers. This response disagrees with the author noting that the book does not separate heavy viewers and one time viewers as entities. Again, the argument in the book creates a culture of generalization that ignores different facets including the productivity of watching television. In contemporary society, television and reading are almost acting on the capacity of being a worthwhile activity recognized through different cultures provided one can limit the scope of viewership. That is, we cannot focus on ignoring the positive attributes of television viewership. For instance, generations across cultures are getting acquainted with the world around them through television channels such as British Broadcasting Cooperation (BBC).

The book set on statistical analyses showing that television viewership leads to time wastage, back related problems, antisocial and a feeling of diminishing productivity. The statistical details Winn (56) uses to support the argument are situation-based which again, ignore the fact that such tendencies including back problems are dependency-based and only the addicted viewers may have the challenges.
