Water Sports in High School
Sports in high school are of various types and are intended to promote good social relations among the students within the school and other schools. The activities performed in high school sports involve the great use of physical exertion and skills as students, or a team competes. Water sports is one the activities practiced in various high schools although it receives less promotion and consideration among the stakeholders involved in curricular. Unlike many other sports, water sports is described as high endurance sports as it implies a lot of energy, rigorous physical activities and appears to be challenging to many participants (Kathie N.pag). Some of the various reasons as to why the water sports is given less importance include the unavailability of facilities needed for the games, high risks, high costs, lack of skills, professional trainers and a small interest in the activity by most of the people.
Water sports are fascinating as they are done in various water bodies in which the participants through the physical activity competes in a challenging yet enjoyable manner. Different people prefer different water bodies such as calm and blue water while others find it fun where the waters are turbulent and rolling. This diversity thus classifies water sports as one of the ideal activity in high school sports. Most people described water sports as adventurous and filled with a lot of fun. This action packed and exciting activity facilitates mental stimulation and physical exertion.

Wait! Water sports are a high endurance rated sport, so why isn’t water sports promoted in high school like football and basketball. paper is just an example!

Currently, there are numerous types of water sports in which an institution of learning could adopt for its students. The medium enables the conduct of event in various states, and one may play the games in, on or under water. This unique nature of the game motivates and offers a happy feeling. Moreover, the occurrences of these activities in different water bodies give a great visual view.
An insight into the sports adopted in high school shows that water sports are less promoted compared to other sports such as football and basketball. Water sports are practiced in some o f the institutions while other completely neglects the activity while focuses on other types of events. One of the main reasons for the less importance is its nature and the medium required for conducting the activity. As stated, water sports need a water medium which is unavailable in most of the institutions hence making it difficult for students to practice. The lack of better medium makes it impossible for people to practice this exciting event (Fritscher N.p). Contrary, other sports such as football and basketball are widely practiced since its medium is dry land that is readily available in all the institutions.
The financial consideration is one of the factors that offer a barrier for the promotion of water sports. Water sports require massive amounts of money for the setup and purchase the right equipment to facilitate the games effectively (Uno N.pag). The facilities needed in most of the water sports are quite expensive and could be unaffordable in high school level. Massive amounts are required in setting up the facilities for various sports such as swimming pool for swimming and diving, racing boats for powerboating, rowing and rafting and vessels for sailing among other equipment (Kathie N.pag). Unlike football, the institution only constructs a pitch and less expensive items such as balls and jerseys. Financial factors thus become a challenge for the promotion of water sports.
Moreover, water bodies require a lot of skills and professional trainers as most of the activities are a risk and dangerous when left uncontrolled. Water as a medium is a threat to the survival of human beings, and therefore activities in water bodies have to be conducted in a careful and professional way. There are several instances of drowning and even death reported in small mediums of water such as swimming pools. Although some of the sports are exciting, they are also dangerous than ball games and safety measures has to be in place. Sports such as skimboarding, surfing, body boarding, waterskiing, and even swimming exposes one in high health risks and thus require fully trained participants and safety measures (Fay 31). The risks, safety precautions, and professional skills needed in water sports, therefore, discourage its conduct in high school.
Football and basketball have been in existence for centuries and has gained more interest among so many people across the globe. Water sports have been on emergency with the rise of technology and have not been familiarized with many people as it is with football and basketball. Most people, therefore, find football games more interesting compared to water sports. Although water sports are fun and exciting, they usually lack more active fans and huge followers. Also, the exists few role models, established teams and organizational bodies for young people to look up to as it is with football and basketball (Fay 38).
With the development of technology, establishment of international sports and curiosity for adventure across the globe, water sports is gaining interests among institutions, students, and individuals. Despite the challenges faced, it is described as an exciting, adventurous, motivating and mentally stimulating activity among the participants. The relevant stakeholders should, therefore, consider introducing the water sports to students at an early stage as one may find passion and his talent in such activities. Just like any other sport in high school, water sports should receive much attention and promotion.
