Admission Essay for Ph.D. in Computer EngineeringI am hereby writing this letter to apply for the PhD program ‘Computer Engineering.’ My aim regarding career is to become a computer specialist focusing on software development for computers and also develop my line of computer applications that could prove beneficial to the study of computers. In 2008, I completed my BSc in applied electronic engineering from Houston University and my final year project was on Home automation that was successful however the lack of AI algorithm prompted me to pursue my Master’s degree in Computer engineering in AI at the Tokyo University in 2013. The challenges that I have encountered during my first two degrees have formed the backbone of my desire to undertake this PhD program.
After my undergraduate degree, I had the opportunity of undertaking my internship at the Aramco service as an electronic Engineer while in 2009 I joined the technical support department at the Yokogawa electric corporation in Houston. The internship provided the needed exposure that was quite relevant to my career advancements. Additionally, in 2010 up to 2011 I was a research assistant at the Institute of Tokyo technology. And later on, in 2012, I interned at IBM where I was instrumental in the design of the first prototype OCR tool. The experience that I gained during these internship period exposed me to the impact of technology in human lives especially applications that are used by the physically impaired individuals in the society.

My individual experience as a child growing up has also been fundamental in my decision to pursue this as a career. Having lived in an environment surrounded by physically challenged individuals, it has been my desire to have a major impact in the academic discipline aimed at alleviating the conditions of such individuals.
I have worked as a class 3 electronic technician and my focus was mainly on the hardware and software. This was a perfect opportunity which increased my exposure especially in conducting repairs and upgrades on electronics and other machinery. The scope of my job covered the design and the development of software which was used within the company and was also sold to other institutions. The success that the software received was very widespread among the various users.
My main aim is to be a R&D developer and to establish my own AI Company to develop a system or OCR application that have the potential to assist not only visually impaired persons but also the elderly, children, language learners and tourists; OCR that enhances recognition and accessibility for the blind. My PhD is to be a continuation of my Master’s degree in Computer Engineering in AI.
My choice for Cambridge University was based on the reviews that I have read from journals and the research that I have personally conducted regarding the available programs in various universities. Moreover, the availability of the requisite infrastructural support at Cambridge University was proper motivation as I seek to achieve my dream to empower the physically challenged. The University offers the best opportunities in terms of academic placement and career development.
I have gathered from Shneidewind (2012) that this is a field that is very wide and unique at the same time and I believe I would bring more energy to your program based on my prior experience and exposure in the field.
