Believing in God
Of all the events that have had a spiritual impact in my life, the lessons and class assignments as well as through Bible exposures have led to a significant belief in God, as I still some lingering questions. There was a time in my life that I was confidently and completely convinced that was no such a thing as God, and that people who held on to the belief on the His existence were merely ridiculous, ignorant, superstitious, irrational, gullible, and had not worked their brains up consider other possibilities. I had always held that God was a creation of human imagination out of the fear of the unknown. I considered those who believed in His existence as uneducated and merely following superstitions, traditions, and things that could not make sense to people who were aware of things that are around them.
Obviously, when one questions the existence of God, one questions the traditions practiced by Christians, and would naturally lead to self-centeredness and do things that satisfy one’s own pleasures and desires irrespective of whether other people are hurt in the pursuit of what the individual is doing. In the process of being held captive by such things, many things can affect an individual through one’s entire life. It is through such a path that I can present certain materials with a hope that a reader of this essay might not go through a similar mistake. The purpose of this essay is to provide a brief account of a personal spiritual journey undertaken by the class that centered on the growth in the belief in God, the Bible as his Word and in His son, Jesus Christ (Moore 89).

Through the lessons and class assignments as well as a personal session with the Bible, I came to develop deeper meanings of the Scriptures and separate nonbelievers’ arguments of the existence of God, and what is rightfully portrayed in the Bible. It takes a remarkable strength of character to move from the point of disbelief and to the point of belief. To move from one point to another, a person must quell all the supposed nonbeliever’s conception of God, and the literal and verbal messages of God communicated through the Bible. I came to realize that religion, unlike other subjects is unlimited, that religion in fact strongly points to explanations that are inconceivable in other classes.
I have read the Bible with enthusiasm, and listened keenly in class, majorly to poke holes from what the scriptures say and what is taught in class to provide credence to the idea of the non-existence of God. Reading the Bible in pursuit of false statements is a futile exercise. I was unable to find the contradictions I sought; I failed and went back to the class notes and the assignments that were given in class to locate more inaccuracies. It then dawned on me that no all the hearsays and misrepresentations of the Bible by nonbelievers were actually written in the Bible. While many who dismiss the concept of God, reduce the idea of God to a white long bearded man resting in the sky exploding into existence here on the Earth. According to the Bible, “God is a spirit …” (John 4:24, New International Version), and he is not the tissues and bones as imagined by men. Moreover, Jesus replies to this misconception when he said that “…by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven” (Matthew 16:17, New International Version).
